What comes to your mind when you think of the word, English?

When it comes to English, most people would say that they are familiar with English as they have learned it since they were probably at primary school or middle school.Here,the question is whether they are capable of teaching children or learners who are learning English as a second language.

Some believe that teaching English is an easy job.

They say what teachers do at work every day is just to repeat what they have obtained.And the student would have to do his or her homework because he or she is afraid of being punished. It sounds reasonable.Is it really that simple?

Here,I would like to share some of my experience about teaching as well as the attitude that I have had since the very first day of my “teaching job” which was 10th August,2015.

As a new teacher I had prepared all the materials that might be used in class before I went to the classroom.It was a small class.I mean there was only one kid in that classroom.we greeted each other and then the class began.

In the middle of this class,he was confused by one word,spook,which he said it was the first time he had ever seen it.I tried to explain it for him in English.”It means a sort of ghost”I said gently.He shook his head and stared at me and said”Can you say it again?”I repeated as he requested but he could not understand this word until I explained it in several different ways. There was smile on his face when he finally understood it and I was very happy as well.

I have had some amusing experience as well.One time,I was trying to spell the word”Mediterranean”at a class where there were two students.I failed to spell it correctly.The students forgave me by saying ”It is okay.Everyone makes mistakes.”There was a blush on my face as soon as I heard this piece of sentence. ”Yes, Everybody makes mistakes but a teacher is not supposed to make any kind of mistake, especially when teaching a class.”I told myself quietly.I thought I had prepared the course well.And the truth was that I should have done it better.

As we can see that there is still room for me to improve myself about teaching.And I may not be able to pronounce a word or some words or even some phrases accurately.I may have tiny problems with writing and I may have obstacles with listening.Whatever it is!You name it.The key point is that I am improving and nurturing myself by utilizing spare time that I can save from a nap or from watching TV programs.So long as I am approaching my dream-being a qualified English teacher,I am happy and highly motivated.
