Learning with Enthusiasm

After the outdoor activity of Food & Wine Tasting in the University of Gastronomic Sciences, we continue to study in the Training Center.

With great curiosity and expectation, we begin a new course about Working in Multicultural Environment.

As is known to all, different countries have different customs, belief and cultures. To avoid culture conflict, it seems necessary and important for us to know more details about cross-culture if we work or live in an international environment. We should raise the awareness about “When in Rome, do as the Romans do”.

Attracted by Dr. Clegg and Dr. George, the couple’s special humoristic speaking style, everyone deeps themselves into the vivid learning atmosphere. 

We learn about some theories about Cross-culture and also analyze some cases happened in the multicultural circumstances. So we have a clear mind that culture is diversity and unity.

The strong learning atmosphere

The course is mainly focused on Lewis Model about Cultural Categories, so we know different characteristics of the three types: Linear-Active, Multi-active and Reactive.

Led by the Doctors’ team, we discuss and share opinions to match different countries with their types.

Another group task is to design a product and promote it into a target country.

With passion, enthusiasm, wisdom, fast-mind and cooperation, all of us get the challenge and complete the task in a short time. Everyone enjoys the class and they also learn a lot from it.

In the afternoon, based on our interests, we choose different courses and enter into different classrooms for further study.

Mr Yan Xianfeng, an English teacher from our team, who is the oldest one with great passion and enthusiasm in learning, gets great harvest in his course. Here is his reflection after this course.

“I’ve entered the course about Green Economy and Green Jobs. The professor, Linda takes a series of examples about the environmental problems that human beings have to face to and challenges they have to cope with in modern times. She aims at promoting our further understanding about relationship between environmental protection and economic development in order to raise our ecology environment protection awareness.

In my opinion, to build a better sustainable environment, government should concern more about the existing environmental problems in the economic development and make concrete policies and carry them out. If only we unify this relationship and balance their development, should we produce more green jobs and have a better future.

In the second section, we pay much more attention to our reality, thinking about what other environment problems still exist in the Training Center and how to improve them.

My team, research and work together, share our ideas and shows specific measures to make a presentation. To everyone’s surprise, we get the most votes at last. How excited we are!”
